Trinity County General Plan and Zoning Code Update

Mintier Harnish is currently leading a comprehensive update to the Trinity County General Plan. The County initiated the update to address changes in State law, ensure internal consistency, incorporate modern best practices, and include the County’s adopted cannabis program. The project includes the development of several documents, including an existing conditions and trends workbook, zoning ordinance diagnosis reports, vision and guiding principles, and policy document (which includes goals, policies, and implementation programs). The project includes a focus on communities and will include the preparation of 10 community plans. The Project also includes a comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Update. The updated Zoning Ordinance will incorporate changes in State law (e.g., ADUs, density bonuses, emergency shelters) and will be consistent with the updated General Plan. Community engagement is a large part of the project.

Engagement activities include regular newsletter releases, the use of project branding through developing a logo and style, facilitation of focus group and Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meetings, joint study sessions with the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors, 20 community workshops, and pop-up booths at community events, fairs, and festivals. The overall General Plan Update is scheduled for completion in Spring 2024.
